1969 original model
The 1969 introduction of the Seiko Speedtimer was an important milestone in chronograph history. It was one of the world's first mechanical chronographs. And it was equipped with caliber 6139, whose precision in measuring elapsed time marked a significant advance in the history of the mechanical wristwatch.
Precision
As with all Speedtimer chronographs, every detail of the design reflects the precision required to measure elapsed time at the highest level. The chronograph second hand extends to the tachymeter markings at the edge of the dial. The chronograph minute hand at six o'clock and the central seconds hand are finished in red and contrast sharply with the dial, making the elapsed time visible at a glance. The date window is placed between the indexes, so that even the exact time can always be read flawlessly.
Classic and sporty
The watch has a classic yet sporty look thanks to the combined matte and shiny finish of the strap and the curved sapphire crystal. The thickness and weight of the strap ensure stability and high wearing comfort on the wrist. The dial is extremely easy to read because of the sunray finish, which is a hallmark of any Prospex watch.
Caliber
The watch is powered by Seiko's Solar caliber V192 that offers a 60-minute chronograph and a 24-hour subdial. When fully charged, this caliber operates for up to six months without being exposed to light. The hour and minute hands and all twelve indexes are generously finished with Lumibrite. So that the time is clearly displayed even in low light conditions.
Seiko, founded in 1881 by Kintaro Hattori, has an impressive history dating back to the beginning of the modern era in Japan. The founder started out as a watchmaker in Tokyo and quickly became a pioneer in the watchmaking industry. The company produced its first clock in 1892 and Japan's first wristwatch in 1913, showing Seiko's commitment to innovation early on.
Over the following decades, Seiko grew into a globally respected watch brand with a series of groundbreaking achievements. In 1969, Seiko introduced the world's first quartz watch, the Astron, setting standards for precision and technological advancement. In the years that followed, Seiko launched other remarkable technologies, such as the Spring Drive mechanism, and developed several collections that are both technically advanced and aesthetically appealing. With more than a century of innovation and craftsmanship, Seiko remains an icon in the watchmaking industry, bringing together the past and the present in an impressive legacy of timekeeping.
The Seiko Prospex collection is the choice for adventurous spirits. Designed for diving, mountain climbing and other challenging environments, Prospex watches offer unmatched durability and functionality. With features such as deep water resistance, special diving bezels and luminescent markings, they are essential for professional divers and explorers. Seiko Prospex is the reliable companion for extreme adventures, both underwater and on land.
